Idea 1: The Broom Roller
14 Feb 2011

This is an innovation from a product in the market called the 'magic mop'. We have found out that the dust is only collected at the sides of the cloth and the middle of the cloth is relatively clean. Therefore, we have added two rollers on top of the mop. Every time the cloth gets dirty, it is rolled up and a clean surface is exposed.

Advantages:
Saves cloth which in turn saves money and resources.
Saves time as the user does not have to keep changing the cloth.

Disadvantages:
The mop would not be able to turn 360 degrees as the roller is blocking it.

Idea 2: Multi-purpose vest
14 Feb 2011

This is a creation of a vest that can hold many things. We have noticed that people coming out of supermarkets have difficulties carrying plastic bags and they often drop things on the floor. Hence, we have come up with an idea, which is a vest with multiple hooks on it. These hooks can be used to hang plastic bags.

Advantages:
Hold more items, prevents plastic bags from dropping
Water-proof

Disadvantages:
Weighs down on user's shoulders
Makes user feel hot

Idea 3: Electronic Measuring Tape
14 Feb 2011

This is an innovation to the normal measuring tape. We found out that the measuring tape cannot be operated by one person if the distance is too long. Hence, we thought of an electronic measuring tape so that it can be operated by one person no matter how long the distance.

Advantages:
Can be operated by one person

Disadvantages:
Mechanism will be very expensive
Already invented

Idea 4: Compressor Dustbin
14 Feb 2011

This is an innovation to the public dustbins. Dustbins in public areas get filled up very quickly and rubbish is commonly seen strewn all over the place due to the full dustbins. Hence, we created a compressor dustbin where rubbish is compacted to make space for more incoming rubbish.

Advantages:
Saves space

Disadvantages:
Hard materials can not be compressed
Requires a specific amount of energy to crush the rubbish

Idea 5: Air-tight dustbin
18 April 2011

Another innovation to the public dustbins. A foul smell is often produced by public dustbins. Pedestrians often get irritated by the smell and avoid the area. Hence, we decided to add to rubber flaps which will keep the dustbin air-tight. Rubbish can be squeezed through.

Advantages:
Prevents unwanted odour.

Disadvantages:
Already invented

Idea 6: Mini Fan Generator
18 April 2011

This is an innovation to the mini fans brought out to picnics and outdoor events. What we noticed was that the battery life was very short. Hence, we decided to add a generator to reduce the use of electricity, thus prolonging the battery life.

Advantages:
Saves electricity

Disadvantages:
Requires electricity to power the generator, thus reducing the purpose.

Idea 7: Foldable Projector Screen
18 April 2011

This is an innovation to the projector screens commonly used in schools or offices. Most of them are either electronic or manual ones. However, for the manual ones, the screen does not stay down all the time or get jammed along the way while pulling it up. The electronic one is very expensive. Hence, we have thought of a projector screen which uses the same concept of the Roman Blinds ( Pulley System ). We changed the spring mechanism to a pulley system and changed the roller screen to a system that works similiar to the roman blinds. We also implemented a locking system at the top to lock the screen at its position.

Advantages:
It is cheap and light
User-friendly and easy to set-up
Environmentally friendly- Can be recycled form old cotton sheets
Strong- Can be strengthened by adding strengthening solution
Cheaper than the electronic projector screen
Prevents jamming of projector screen

Disadvantages: May have creases

Note: The factories/workshop will not produce just one piece as it will be very expensive so we have to hand-made this at home. The actual cotton sheet would have to be recycled and treated (strengthened)  at the factory
